Lest we forget. It is ten years this week since the "West" in the form of the UN guaranteeded the safety of the people of Bosnia. In the interests of remaining "neutral" in a "civil war" UN troops stood by whilst Serbs massacred everyone.
The people who did this have still not been punished.
the war in Yugosalvia was the last act of the Second World war, in the week when we rightly celebrate the stand of the UK against facsism in Europe we should not forget that we allowed the fascists to come to power in both Croatia and Serbia.
Sometime milatry force is required and justified; it is odd to me that it is justifyied in Iraq, but not in Yugosalvia.

What do these people want?

It seems that many people are confused about what the people bombing us want. The media portrays them as "mad". Indeed they are, but only if you agree that all those seeking to establish a religious state are "mad".  In fact their ideals are completely co herent.  For a full statement of what they are about then try the web site of "Hizb ut Tahrir", a political organisation which attracts many thousands of supporters here in the UK and is associated, through the Stop the War alliance with George Galloways Respect mob.
The only way of fighting these ideas is by defending "our" ideas. But what are these? European culture has given us the slave trade, the Catholic Church, Communism and Fascism. Only last decade one European country (Yugoslavia) was allowed to self destruct in a genocide of bigotry whilst the rest of Europe stood back and watched.
The worth while things that Europe has given the world arise from the enlightenment; the English Civil War, the French Revolution and in the American revolution. Personal liberty, rationality and science.  All these are under as much threat from the Christian fundamentalists in the USA, the Stalinist New Labour Party and the Catholic Church as they are from the Islamists.
Let us defend our freedom by keeping it

remember this, when force was really needed the UN was found wanting. A civil war in Europe with us on the side lines. It is a great pity that Serbia and Croatia had no oil or maybe we would have done something to protect Yugosalvia.
